McGill 2nds 53 vs Bishops 5 September 14, 2008 MONTREAL, QC McGill Redmen took down an optimistic Bishops side 53 - 5 in wet and muddy conditions Sunday morning. Coming to Montreal off a 43-17 loss, the Gaiters side went down early in the first half, with Redmen winger Jean-Marc Lacourriere scoring. Anton Nestel then followed up with a try peeling off a McGill scrum in Bishop's 22. The rest of the first half saw players on both side challenged by the wet conditions, but McGill pulled together some good organized play. Nick Santos would also score under the posts off good continuous passing and a great step late in the first. Fly half Josh Balloch converted, putting the score at 17 - 0 at the half. After the break, McGill started to organize a bit more on their offensive strategy, and impressed coaches and fans alike with support and continuous play like they had yet to put together before Sunday. In one highlight minute, Redmen offloaded the ball through up to 10 phases of play to place themselves right up inside the Bishops 22. Scrums were also a highlight, with McGill blowing Gaiters off the ball on many occasions. Second half scorers included rookie winger Dillon Roscums, showing some impressive sidesteps to pick up two tries, forwards Peter Gillespie and Cameron Scott, both with thundering runs and hard hits to break the defense, and centre Nick Rossy. In the dying minutes, Bishops picked up a consolation try. Near the McGill tryline, Bishops picked up a penalty and ran forward after forward at Redmen defense to finally bowl over with a try. McGill's club side now looks to continue a three game win streak to their next away games against Ottawa University. Go Redmen! Halftime: 17 - 0 Match Review by Josh Balloch.
