McGill 48 @ Bishops 0 September 5, 2008 LENNOXVILLE, QC McGill's Varsity Rugby side romped Bishops 48 - 0 Friday night in Lennoxville. Bishops' home supporters saw McGill take control of the first few minutes, moving steadily up through Bishops' half and into their 22. Then, on a Bishops scrum in the 22, McGill's forwards powered over and won the ball. Halfback Josh Reznick fired the ball out to the backs, who passed wide to put Stefan Rinas over with the opening try. For the next five minutes, though, Bishops pulled together and took the game to McGill's 22, where strong McGill defense held off a series of threatening plays. Bishops had no shortage of opportunities awarded by the referee, who continued to award penalties that brought the game back near McGill's tryzone. McGill then capitalized on a penalty, with flyhalf Ian Turner kicking the side back to the opposition half. Following the lineout, the ball was pulled wide, where winger Evan Straight and fullback Mike Davis supported each other excellently in 1-2 passing, and Davis scored. McGill continued to capitalize with excellent support play to put in two more tries before halftime. Back from the intermission, McGill hit hard and got another try by moving the ball quick and wide through excellent support. Not too long after Josh Reznick pulled another quick ball out with forwards in support, resulting in a try by Kenneth Lin. The rest of the game saw much of the same play, with strong support and quick wide ball enabling McGill to score three more tries and finish a shutout season opener at 48 - 0. McGill now await a rematch against Bishops in their first home game of the season on Sunday September 14. Come out and support your McGill Redmen! Halftime: 22 - 0 Match Review by Josh Balloch
