McGill 36 @ Bishops 3

Oct. 21, 2007

You can't expect to beat a team with a single penalty kick. McGill continues their streak of dominance and doesn't give an inch against a scrappy Bishop's team...

MONTREAL -- Seven different players scored for McGill en route to a resounding 36-3 victory over visiting Bishop’s in men’s university rugby action at Molson Stadium, Sunday.

The Redmen, who have won 45 of their last 47 league games, have already clinched first place in the Quebec league, their sixth consecutive QSSF pennant.

The Gaiters came out strong in the first half and actually led 3-0 at halftime on a penalty goal from Samuel Campbell.

The McGill forwards scrummed, mauled, and latched their way over the line for four impressive tries in the final stanza.

Cayse Ruiter, a sophomore flanker from Ottawa, scored the try of the game, peeling off from a lineout and tightrope-walking the sideline before reaching paydirt for five points.

Winger Evan Straight, a freshman from Vancouver, B.C., took advantage of an overlap to add a try for the backs and fullback Marshall Eidinger, a senior from Toronto, picked an excellent gap in the dying moments of the game for a try of his own.

Adam Sommer of LaSalle, Que., Olivier Lavigueur of Montreal and Antoine Nestel, a native of South Africa, scored other tries.

Jonathan Bell, another Torontonian, rounded out the scoring for McGill with three conversions.

McGill will attempt to go undefeated when they close out the regular season on Oct. 28 against Sherbrooke at Molson Stadium.
