DARTMOUTH CLASSIC TRIP AS McGILL OPENS FALL SEASON

McGill RFC opened the 2011 season with a trip down to Hanover, New Hampshire to take part in the annual ‘Classic’ against hosts Dartmouth and Army. The trip was an eventful building experience for Redmen new and old. McGill fielded two teams to be pitted against both the elité of American society and those sent to protect them. In all four games, McGill fought tooth and nail to prove their mettle for the glory of the Mighty Red. After the smoke had settled, the Redmen came away with one win via our Club A team after a stellar performance against Army.

The modus operandi of McGill RFC trips held true as both new nicknames (Homewrecker Humza) and trips to China Moon left laughter in our hearts and problems in our bowels. Notable impressions were made on all as a rash of first year players were selected to the thirty-five man roster that the Varsity team will be sporting this year. A fresh crop of talent abound from all reaches of our fair land, and thanks to Nick “Skywalker” Something or Other, Thomas Gagnon isn’t the only person to make fun of from the Eastern Townships! Regardless, we are still very fortunate to have the services of our fearless leader, Alex “Bamber” Sunell at our helm, his foreboding handlebar moustache has been rumoured to be depleting the Maritime fish-stocks for over six months now. Seasoned veterans Jon Lee, Liam O’Briain, Roderick MacKenzie and Devon Howard are the beacons of light shining this pithy group of vagrants to another successful season. Plus we still have the Ballochs, looking better than ever!

The McGill Rugby Football Club proudly announces that we have three full and playable rosters for this upcoming year. A major step in the development of our club, we now look to develop all of the new talent to wholly better our side in the coming years. Plus, we got new kit! Finally, McGill’s partnership with Adidas has benefitted us Plebes of the Second Tier, with jerseys, shorts, socks and practice jerseys, we will not be looking like the rag-tag bunch of harlequins.

Finally, McGill RFC and the entire alumni community would like to congratulate Coach Eric “Red” Van Sickle on the upcoming arrival of a new baby, This will be the second of the latest edition of the Van Sickle clan, and rest assured, they will be swinging claymores and pillaging small villages in no time!
