McGILL 34 - SHERBROOKE 3
The first regular season game for the McGill Redmen took them on the road. Venturing east into the depths of the Quebec campagne to Sherbrooke, a bus-full of souls readied themselves for the battle ahead.
In a flurry of red, the team took to the field. The Vert et Or gave us everything that we could handle, crunching forward crashes and yeoman-esque tackling, it was not until the latter portion of the first half that the Redmen were able to break the game open and score some timely tries.
As the game progressed, the McGill Varsity side was able to expand their lead and make some wily substitutions and create some new vernacular to add to the omnipresent Joual.
Devon Howard proved, despite his soulless disposition, that scoring tries, truly is that easy as he strutted over the line for two Tries.
The after-game celebrations also proved to be a spectacle of sportsmanship and good-natured drink buying. Player of the Game and Cockney bred inside-centre, Liam Brown was obliged to partake in the Boat Race of opposing game day all-stars. Little did he know that it was an Irish Stout. Once that swill touched his Brummie lips, there was no way his refined palate could take that kind of abuse.
But all in all, a great showing all-round.
Final score: 34-3
